Matrix Switch: Interconnecting various inputs with various outputs

Bookmark and Share
Video from multiple sources can be switched and relayed to multiple displays using a Video Matrix Switch. Some models also have the option to route audio and are referred to as A/V switches. These switches tend to create a matrix like pattern of interconnection possibilities and hence get their name. Configurations can range from 2 inputs and 2 outputs to 32 inputs and 16 outputs. For even greater configurations, these devices can be cascaded or daisy chained together. These devices are classified depending upon the type of video inputs and outputs they support. Based on this, we have the VGA Video Matrix, VGA AV Matrix, DVI Matrix, HDMI Matrix, Component Matrix, Composite Video Matrix and the Cat5 Video Matrix Switcher.

Since this device buffers every output from every input, signal integrity is maintained and it appears as though
each display is directly connected to the source. Switching between the video sources is simple and can be done via push buttons in front of the unit, by infra red remote control, RS232 or through TCP/IP. There are LEDs on the front panel which indicate the status of the selected device. A key feature of this device is the elimination of the need to disconnect and reconnect the cables thereby saving time and eliminating clutter associated with multiple cables. Requiring no additional software or drivers and operating on simple plug and play functionality, the Video Matrix Switcher is available in desktop or rack mountable versions.
Offering multi platform support it works well with operating systems like Windows 2000, Windows XP, Linux, Mac and Sun. The OSD menu selection allows adjusting Color, Contrast, Brightness, Sharpness, Level and Gain. Equipped with certifications from FCC, CE and RoHS, this hardware device can also extend the distance of connection between source and display devices to 1000 feet if category cables are used to secure the connections.

In environments where information from many computers needs to be displayed on multiple displays such as data and research centers, stock exchanges, information broadcasting kiosks, digital signage applications, commercial and military grade applications, the Matrix Switch is an ideal solution. It is an unique switching device which play a very important role.
