Residential VoIP - How Does It Differ From Regular Phone Calls?

Bookmark and Share
Expensive long distance phone calls are about to be a thing of the past because of residential VoIP service. Long distance calls used to be the only means of communicating with other people from distant places but with the aid of the internet, anyone can now talk to their friends, families or business partners via their computers.

Residential VoIP is the better alternative for those who need to make regular long distance phone calls but have strict budgets. People who have high speed internet connection and would want to lower their phone bills can benefit from residential VoIP. People whose business require making international calls or long-distance calls regularly can also reduce their phone bills using residential VoIP. People who constantly travel and would still want to use their phone number can use VoIP. In addition, those who want to use several features in phone services such as call-forwarding, conference calls, called ID, call waiting and voicemail at no extra cost would also benefit from VoIP service.

The Concept of Residential VoIP

Simply speaking, VoIP is Voice over Internet Protocol. This system uses the internet to place calls around the world. If someone has VoIP, that person could contact anyone from Italy or Australia while he or she is based in the States. It's a lot like placing long distance calls with regular phone but the difference is that VoIP does not charge as much as the landline.

Due to the emergence of the internet as a tool for communication, people around the world have started using it to talk to other people. Back then, the internet was used merely for sharing information but some people saw its potential for long distance communication, which is why VoIP was created.

Unlike regular phone calls, VoIP is much cheaper because people can actually make free phone calls to other people if they set up PC-to-PC phone calls. Residential VoIP also enables people to make PC-to-phone calls but there are charges for calls like that. Even so, the charge for PC-to-phone calls is still cheaper compared to regular phone calls.

Residential VoIP also provides callers lots of additional features that are free of charge. With VoIP callers can use call-forwarding features and voicemail but with regular phones they would need to pay extra to have these added to their regular phone service. Also, with VoIP, callers can send documents or pictures without having to use fax machines making it easier for users to simultaneously send documents or pictures and talk on the phone.

Residential VoIP is also easier to carry than regular phones because users would only need to bring with them their laptop or their VoIP phone. As long as they have internet connection, they could instantly start calling anyone from any place in the world.

Residential VoIP is a much better alternative compared to regular phones because it is cheaper, has more features at no extra charge and it is much easier to bring along. So for those who are trying to find a solution to their long distance communication dilemmas, residential VoIP is the right answer for them.
