VOIP - The Paradoxical Truth Exposing The Hidden "Self"

Bookmark and Share
The concept of "Self" and "Other" represents not only an eminent fraction of the VoIP industry but also a realm where men conspicuously try to expose the "Other" in order to shelter the "Self."
VoIP defies the norms of tangibility applicable to the telecom industry and all its business segments. From routing and calls to billing – all are imperceptible entities of the industry which makes it much more vulnerable to swindling and fraud.
My exposure to the VoIP world has to an extent instilled within me an aptitude to evaluate and judge one's character. The objective character of the business eradicates any form of dependency over one another making it even more imperative to protect one's corners. The traffic goes to the best rate/quality vendor, thus in a way knitting together both factors making them mutually reinforcing. Thus the cut throat competition and lack of dependency makes one susceptible to lose his morals to gain temporary monetary benefits. "TRUST NO ONE" can be a superlative slogan for this nature of business however as ideal as it may sound, it is impractical since the "Self" will create a deadlock with the "Other" and thus the initiation and confidence building for the business to thrive will get severely hampered. To survive in this competitive industry you need to give your customers a reassurance that your integrity is intact along with the competitive offerings but the paradox is to build trust when you do not trust the "Other". Experiences and interactions do make you a better judge of character however; can a "Self" totally rely on its instincts to judge the integrity of the "Other"? Can one risk placing materially substantial financial decisions solely on intuition, and if not, would the "Other" still trust them.
The eradication of fraud from VoIP is a matrix yet to be deciphered by the VoIP entities. A "Self" might try to build as strong a bastion around his company to shield it from swindle but cannot completely be assured that it is indissoluble. Negligence to even the most trivial of details can lead to colossal monetary losses. Companies open up and close every day in VoIP and that too with high frequency. The same individual may close a company and start a new one with perhaps a different name thus making these "Others" virtually untraceable and therefore recovery too, impossible. Thus for a "Self" it is better to take preventive measures rather than curative.
Now a days companies in VoIP lay great emphasis on customer evaluation and scrutiny. Breezecom has set decent standards for customer assessment. They have deployed a hierarchical step wise customer evaluation procedure which enables them to minimize the risk of potential fraud. All account managers are supposed to research on each prospective customer evaluating their stability in the market and pointing out any peculiarity in their work ethics. The customers then go through the contract compliance procedure where they fill out the contract and provide details about themselves and their company establishment along with furnishing all supporting documents validating their authenticity. The contract and these details are then scrutinized by the Legal department of Breezecom to extort any potential aperture for swindle or indiscretion. The contract is then finally reviewed by the directors to make sure all loopholes are sealed. This repetitive inspection methodology though time and effort consuming and often recurring in nature does significantly filter out the potential threats that has bearing of possible fraud. Now this can potentially lead to the same paradox of customer having his trust issues when he is not being trusted himself. To alleviate this problem, Breezecom offers to provide all similar documentation to establish their legitimacy. Their untainted reputation and strong establishment in the market aids them to ascertain their authenticity along with gaining customer confidence.
As Frederick W. Faber quotes,"There is a great deal of self-will in the world, but very little genuine independence of character." What is wrong is often forgotten by what is convenient. To co-exist commercially in a society such, and that too in an industry as deceiving as voip, one must take all possible measures to safeguard and protect their entity. Profit maximization is only possible with loss minimization and therefore substantial factors of losses such as fraud should be taken care of to enhance prospects of success and growth. Risk is only an excuse to justify lack of preparation and even though both can lead to substantial growth, only one can lead to substantial loss. Therefore it's often wise to play safe.
