Android Dominating the Mobile Market

The mobile platforms wars continue to make news in the industry. As analysts, industry players and critics present their reports the opinions keep shifting in favour of one platform or the other. However the facts and figures speak for themselves bringing a clearer picture of the shift of the market trends.

The analysis by the firm Lookout in the App Genome Project reveals the growth of Android application development is more as compared to iOS platform. It must be noted that the report undertakes to study the experience of the US users only.

According to the project estimates, a higher figure for applications available on the Android market was reported. An increase in the number of Android applications being developed was witnessed that grew approximately 127 percent surpassing Apple App store that saw a growth rate of 44 percent.

If the Android continues to grow at the same speed it would have more apps that the Apple App store by the mid of 2012. The Apple App Store still has more applications available but the growth rate of Android applications is three times that of Apple therefore the accelerating growth can pose to be a threat for Apple in the near future.

Computer security expert Eugene Kaspersky predicts Google's Android to dominate the market, reducing Apple and Blackberry to niche players. According to him Android operating system follows the same strategy that Microsoft followed in the 1990s that made it the most popular operating system for computers.

Keeping that in mind the other platforms need a strategy change or Android would end up with 80 percent of the mobile market share leaving Apple's iPhone, RIM's Blackberry and Nokia to share the remaining 10 percent among them.

Today the loyalty ratings for iPhone are higher than Google Android by almost 84 percent. The Android market however cannot be taken lightly as it was only in the final quarter of 2010 that Android took the title from Nokia as the top smart phone operating system. It was a major shakeup in the mobile industry forcing Nokia to switch to Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system.

Android is gaining momentum in the market. The last year figures for Android applications development market depicts the positive progress it has been making consistently. From the look of things the growing trend is all set to continue making Android the fastest growing platform ever in the history of the mobile world.
