The Motorola Spice is a soon to be released handset that offers simplistic text capabilities, coupled with touch screen functionality. In addition it offers web access, and a variety of useful entertainment features to engage its user. The unit measures 97 mm x 61 mm wide and is 16 mm thick whilst weighing 145 g in weight. It is expected to be released Q4 2010.

The handset comes with a 3.0 inch TFT touch screen, that offers excellent image and colour representation, within a 240 x 320 pixel screen size. For navigation purposes the handset utilises the Moto blur user interface, with the added benefit of live updates, whilst a range of touch sensitive controls are also provided as standard. The unit comes with a backtrack touch panel, as well as an accelerometer sensor for auto rotation of imagery.

The handsets phone book is able to retain practically unlimited numbers of entries, whilst also providing photo call functionality. In addition the call records feature of the handset provides information relating to dialled, missed and received calls. The unit comes with a speakerphone, a 3.5 mm audio jack as well as the option of utilising MP3 and WAV ringtones in addition to the standard ring and vibration options.

The handset utilises the android operating system, which is classed as version 2.1, whilst from a connectivity point of view, the unit offers Wi Fi and HSDPA connectivity, providing web access, whilst GPRS and EDGE connections are also incorporated as standard. To complete the available options a microSD card slot is provided which allows the user to expand the available memory capacity, up to 32 GB, in addition micro-USB and blue tooth connections are also included.

The unit comes with a variety of social media integration features which includes Facebook, twitter as well as MySpace. In addition Google search, Gmail, YouTube as well as talk and Google maps functionality are also incorporated within the unit. Entertainment is provided by virtue of the FM radio, a variety of games as well as an MP4/MP3 music and video player. Satellite navigation is also available with the unit, which benefits from A-GPS support. The unit comes with a 3.15 mega pixel camera that operates at 2048 x 1536 pixels and includes geo-tagging, whilst also providing the opportunity to record video as an alternative to still imagery.

The Motorola Spice, much like the Motorola Backflip, is an engaging handset that offers a wide array of useful functionality. One of the key features is its impressive level of functionality, all of which is contained within a compact and lightweight unit.
